Simple Data Recording mode for the EEG-Monitor.

The EEG-Monitor knows two modes for data recording.

  • Simple Data Recording mode.
  • EDF Data Recording mode.

For the EDF Data Recording mode a special description is made and can be found on the next link on this BRAINTRONICS website. The EDF mode is an international accepted standard and is used for storage of multi channel biological and physical signals. To use the EDF mode it is necessary to fill in patient information. This is absolute needed otherwise the format checkers of a EDF- reader program will give an EDF format error and no data can be displayed. The EEG-Monitor is programmed so that you must fill in the patient information. The EEG-Monitor can only generate recording EDF-files. It is not possible to read the recording EDF- information back in the EEG-Monitor. For that function there are other browsers available on the web.

The Simple Data Recording mode.

Attention

In the review mode, it is imperative that the same configuration is used as during the recording. If the configuration is differend, a sync. problem can occur during reading the data in these review mode. This problem will resolved in a later version of the EEG monitor. This simple storage mode can only be used within one session. If it is necessary to recording data and keep these data for later investigation, the EDF format must to be used. This mode save both time as well as physical information of each signal and the data can at all times viewed with an EDF-browser.

The EEG-Monitor has his own data recording mode. This is a very simple storage mode which only stored the data samples. There will not be stored any time and physical values of the signal in the file. In principle, each screen sample is stored. During the recording of this signal the samples in the EEG-Monitor are exactly in time received at the sampling rate of the signal. The sample rate is generated in the Ethernet-102 (V2) interface. Since the simple mode data recording no time information stored but only store successive data samples, the time relation of the displayed data has no relationship with the recording time scale. In practice, it is more that the data is displayed at the speed of reading from the HardDisk.

Start up a data recording session.

A data recording session can only start during the Acquisition mode. Press the RED recording button left on the screen.

Start Recording Session

In the file open or create dialog it is possible to select a file for data storing or creating a new one. In the installation directory of the EEG-Monitor <C:\Program Files\BRAINTRONICS\EEG Monitor 1166> a special directory is created for storing this type of files.

Select Recording Filename

At the moment the file dialog is closed and the recording is started the color of the graphic screen is changed. During the whole recording this color is active also when a new page is start. By the start of the recording some header data is stored in the file.

Data recording is started

After pressing the 'Stop Recording" button the background screen color will switch back to the default color. Only the samples that are recorded has a yellow background. The file for storing the recorded data will also be closed after pressing the 'Stop Recording' Button. The EEG-Monitor will stay in the 'Acquisition-mode'.

Stop recording

Start the Review mode.

After stopping the recording mode the stored data can also be review with the EEG-Monitor. By pressing the 'Review' key the EEG-Monitor stops logging data (Acquisition mode) and switch over to the 'Review' mode. Please read careful consideration the following 'Warning' notice on the screen.

Start the review mode

After pressing the 'OK' buton of the Warning dialog a 'review-toolbar' will become visible. With this toolbar the recording data can be make visible in the graphic screen of the EEG-Monitor. By pressing the 'Play EEG' button a file dialog wil be opened and the file that is used for de recording is visable in the file list box. Select the correct recording file (see the warning dialog) and close the file selection dialog.

Now the selected file with data samples is ploted in the graphic screen. The part that is the recording data is in a light green background color. With the buttons of the review bar the user can scrolling through the recorded samples. The progress bar gives a indication where in the data recording the graphic display is shown the data.

Press the Acq- button to set the EEG-Monitor back in the Acquisition mode.
